Leather Body Skins

Emu body leather is characterised by its unique appearance that is derived from the follicle patterns (feather pins) spread evenly over the hide. This striking appearance makes emu leather ideally suited to high fashion garments, handbags, shoes or other leather making applications. The body skin is a light weight leather yet is strong and durable.

Emu Tracks carries a substantial stock of emu body skins. There are a variety of colours available in natural tones including; tan, light brown, chocolate brown, black and gold. An emu body skin is approx. two thirds of a square metre in size (approx. 7 square feet). For a variety of reasons, the quality of emu skins can vary substantially depending on imperfections and blemishes. They are graded according to quality from A to D grade. An indication of grading is defined below.

A Grade - Full average to large size skin with no cuts, blemishes and perfect tanning.

B Grade - Average or large size skin with up to 6 minor imperfections, generally to outer areas of skin.

C Grade - Average size skin with up to 20 imperfections.

D Grade - Multiple minor and serious blemishes and imperfections. While there might be some serious imperfections, generally, at least around 50% of the body skin can be utilised for making small leather goods or craft items.

Prices of body skins vary depending on grade, size and quality and each skin is individually priced. Prices range from $150 for a top A grade skin, down to $42 for a D grade skin. A photograph of up to 5 examples within a grade of body skins can be emailed to you for selection. Please select carefully as we are unable to offer refunds and exchanges are only undertaken at the purchaser’s expense.
